The liver is one of the most important organs in the body, it weighs between 1.3 and 1.8 kg and requires 13% of the blood flow. It performs almost 500 different vital functions! Therefore,  taking care of the liver is very important.

What do you do to take  care of the liver?

If you’ve had liver disease before, you probably know how much it suffers. Exhaustion, poor digestion, weakness, jaundice, abdominal pain, water retention are just a few of the consequences.

Pressure, worry and stress also have a harmful effect on the liver.

Today we would like to give you simple tips to take care of the liver at breakfast. So you can start the day healthy!

1. A cup of coffee to take care of the liver? Yes gladly!


Coffee is good for the liver. Last year’s study by the Universities of Edinburgh and Southampton (UK) found that consuming  2 cups of coffee a day reduced the risk of liver disease.

  • Thanks to the antioxidants in coffee, the enzyme γ-G lutamyl reduced transpeptidase in the blood. This enzyme serves as a marker in cirrhosis.
  • LDL cholesterol is reduced and inflammation of the liver cells is combated.

So coffee has a protective effect on the care of the liver. However, you shouldn’t be overdoing this. Have a cup with breakfast to perk you up and improve liver function.

2. Caring for the liver: garlic on an empty stomach

We have heard many reports about the benefits of garlic on an empty stomach. If you want to maintain your liver health, you shouldn’t neglect this habit.

  • Thanks to the sulfur compounds it contains, numerous toxins are eliminated.
  • Garlic is high in allicin and selenium. These fight inflammation, promote liver cleansing and various metabolic processes.

3. Toasted bread with extra virgin olive oil

A slice of toasted bread with olive oil tastes delicious on the one hand and is incredibly healthy on the other and an important part of the Mediterranean diet.

  • Choose whole grain bread (e.g. rye bread).

Oats should never be missing in our breakfast. It is very nutritious and also has a detoxifying effect. Its amino acids then also stimulate the liver’s lecithin production.

  • Lecithin is an organic substance that helps our body eliminate toxins.
  • It also regulates blood sugar levels and supplies the organism with protein that protects the liver.

6. Avocado


Avocado is simply delicious and really one of the best options for your breakfast bread. Top 1 slice of wholemeal rye bread with 1/2 avocado and you will be delighted.

  • The avocado reduces the cholesterol level.
  • It contains simply saturated fatty acids, which are very healthy for the body because they reduce inflammation and improve digestion.

No matter what shape you eat an apple: grated, chopped, with a little honey and cinnamon, in slices with nuts and brown sugar or whatever nature gives us.
