An average German smoker spends around € 1300 on cigarettes per year. Our elixir for smokers’ lungs, on the other hand, can be made from cheap food so as not to burden your budget additionally.

“Smoker’s lung”

The term “smoker’s lung” describes several symptoms and cannot be clearly assigned to a single clinical picture.

“Smoker’s lung” includes diseases of the respiratory tract, such as chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In these diseases, the proportion of smokers is up to 90%.

The symptoms of smokers’ lungs are coughing with sputum and, in advanced disease, difficulty breathing.

A complete cure for COPD is not possible, but those who quit smoking usually improve their condition very quickly. Anti-inflammatory and expectorant agents that help with expectoration help alleviate the symptoms.

Our elixir is one of those measures that can provide relief. “Relief” does not mean “cure”. Even if the elixir helps you, you should still quit smoking.

Three ingredient elixir

The expectorant elixir basically consists of only two ingredients: honey and onion. There is an optional third ingredient, turmeric, if you have this at home.

1. honey

Honey as a remedy for stubborn mucus

Honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and is not only a good remedy for coughs. Due to the antibiotic effect of honey, it is advisable to let a teaspoon of honey melt in your mouth several times a day if you have a sore throat or sore throat. This method is also effective for inflamed and irritated gums.

2 onions

Onions are expectorant

With their sharp essential oils, onions have an antibacterial and expectorant effect. This makes them ideal for use against coughs. In children, onions are also used as an onion wrap to encourage coughing up.

3. Turmeric

Turmeric gives food an intense yellow color

Turmeric is a rather unusual spice in Germany. It is also anti-inflammatory. The spice is often called turmeric or, incorrectly, saffron root. You usually get it ground as an exotic spice.

Turmeric gives food an intense yellow color and is much cheaper than saffron. The taste is mildly spicy, which is why you can use it generously for seasoning.

Correct coughing up

Breathe freely

Due to tar and fine dust, the fine cilia in the lungs are no longer able to properly transport dirt particles and mucus to the outside. You must therefore support your lungs with coughing up. It is important that you form enough slime to carry the dirt outside.

Only if you drink enough (calorie-free drinks) can enough phlegm build up in your lungs that you can cough up. The elixir starts to work approx. 20 minutes after ingestion. Take advantage of the effects and prepare to clear your lungs by coughing up.

Moist air also promotes the creation and loosening of the mucus. Maybe you are planning to cough up after a hot shower, full bath, or steam bath? Alternatively, like with a cold, you can hang your head over a pot of hot water and inhale the steam deeply for a few minutes.

Now massage or tap your airways from bottom to top each time you exhale. This will loosen up the mucus that you will then cough up. Sit comfortably and bend forward slightly. If you prefer to stand, stand like a goalkeeper: your legs wide and your upper body slightly tilted forward. Now start actively coughing.

Cough briefly and vigorously against the closed lips. This builds up additional counter pressure, which ensures better mucus loosening. Spit out the coughed up secretion and keep coughing until you feel like you have cleared your airways or until no more mucus can be loosened.
