Natural eye drops for irritated eyes

If you have irritated, dry eyes and feel like you need to moisten them frequently, you should use natural eye drops. Eyebright (Euphrasia) already has its effect in its name and is an excellent medicinal plant from which we can benefit from dry eyes.

If you’re using regular eye drops, make sure they don’t contain corticoids. Their use is strictly discouraged, especially in the case of corneal damage.

These can only be determined with certainty by an ophthalmologist, which is why you should not use the eye drops that helped “last time” without talking to the doctor.

Corticoids are also not suitable for long-term treatment, which can lead to further health problems. Your family doctor or ophthalmologist has specialist knowledge on these topics.

If you are making chamomile tea, keep the tea bags you have already used in the refrigerator. As soon as there is a need to reduce inflammation of the eyelids, lie down and place the tea bags on your eyelids until they stop cooling.

If you are uncomfortable with the ice-cold tea bags, let them thaw a little.

Avoid using chamomile directly on the eye. Chamomile contains substances that can irritate the sensitive cornea and conjunctiva.

Also in Asia shop they are sometimes offered. Neem has many effects and can then be used, among other things, to reduce the watering of the eyes in allergies and hay fever. It is also anti-inflammatory and therefore reduces redness, itching and conjunctivitis.

How do we use neem?

  1. Use a sterile container. A drop of neem oil is dissolved in 50 ml of sterile water. The whole thing is shaken well to get an emulsion in which the active ingredient is well distributed.
  2. Two cotton compresses are dipped in this mixture and then placed on the closed, irritated eyes. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. This treatment can be done once or twice a day until improvement is seen.

Avoid harsh makeup

Many cosmetic products contain substances that are not beneficial for the health of the eyes and skin. If you apply them around the eyes, they will quickly get into the eyes and make their condition worse.

While you suffer from irritated eyes, you should therefore avoid make-up, at least the products that you use near your eyes : eyeliner, mascara, eye shadow.

If you don’t want to part with them entirely, buy natural products that are free from heavy metals and parabens. This can usually be seen on the label.

You should also refrain from using aggressive products when removing make-up. For example, use a damp cloth and some almond or olive oil.

A small amount will do, so be careful not to apply too much kohl.

It is possible that the kohl may cause an itch at the beginning. If it persists or if you notice any other signs of an allergic reaction, remove it quickly.
